Classic 2012 Day 1 Stage 1 Results

Division 1 – International

Division 1 caters to Pro Teams / Elite Teams /National Teams who are riding four races plus the UCI Sanctioned Tour of Tobago. The first four races are being ridden off on October 3, 4, 5 and 6^th and the Tour of Tobago will be ridden off on Sunday October 7^th, 2012.

Classic International Race 1, Division 1:  Wednesday October 3, 2012.

This event started at 9:00 a.m. and finished at 11:30 a.m. The riders used the Coral Gardens / Shirvan / Carnbee circuit, covering an overall  distance of 90k over 10 laps on the 9k circuit. The race started in clear and sunny conditions which lasted throughout with the exception of a light drizzle during part of the second lap. There were five ‘Sprint Primes’ during the race and the overall winner of this part of the competition in this race was Jean Michel Lachance of Canada. There were a few attacks during the race and the overall first 10 riders crossed the line in smaller groups of three-four riders. The main peloton crossed the finish line approximately three minutes after the lead riders.

The top five finishers in the race were as follows:

1)      Jean Michel Lachance, Canada, (Team Vita Malt)

2)      Lee Muse, USA, (Team Spy Watts-Up)

3)      Christian Varley, Isle of Man, (Team Spy Watts-up)

4)      Darren Mathews, Barbados, (Team Coco)

5)      Lukas Stoiber, Austria, (Team Vita Malt)

Division 2

This Division caters to Juniors, Ladies, Masters and Categories 2, 3 and 4.

Classic Open Race 1, Division 2: Wednesday October 3, 2012

This race used the same circuit as the Division 1 riders but started three minutes after them and covered an overall distance of 45k over five laps on the 9k circuit. This race ended up with several smaller bunches and the top five finishers in the race were as follows:

2)      Roger Smart, Degree Madonna Wheelers Cycle Club, Trinidad and Tobago

3)      Alexander Gibbon, Rafmon-Mecalfab Heatwave Cycle Club, Trinidad and Tobago

4)      Ronnie Moses, Rafmon-Mecalfab Heatwave Cycle Club, Trinidad and Tobago

5)      Nicholas Lopez, Degree Madonna Wheelers Cycle Club, Trinidad and Tobago
