Accomodations at Cycling Village
|
Unwittingly it seems, the Tobago House of Assembly has conspired to alter the course of the staging of the regions premier cycling road race. After 20 years in the saddle of the cycling classic, the organizing committee has been left with little choice but to change gear in midstream. However, far from being distressed, the promoters of the event are extremely ecstatic. In 2007, the Tobago International Cycling Classic race organizers were looking to repeat the same tested and tried track that had become the hall mark of the race course over time. But, upon traversing the new Link Road from Bloody Bay to L’Anse Fourmi then on to Charlotteville and Speyside, They were totally blown away by what can only be described as the ‘Beauty and the Beast’. “This strip of terrain is awesome, with some brutal climbs for parts of the way, undulating through the lush green rainforest reserve on one side and a steep decline down to the blue Caribbean Sea on the other side. It is absolutely breathtaking”. In addition to the spectacular scenery that the new road brings into view, it is also a vital link that connects the coastal Villages of Bloody Bay to Charlotteville and Speyside. Prior to the recent construction of this roadway, commuters had to journey all the way to the other side of the island to access their neighbouring village. It is understood that not very long ago, the only means of getting to and from these areas was by using a boat. In the past years, the international and local riders were intrigued by the sun, sea and vegetation which have been the back drop to this event year after year. “This new beautiful piece of roadway takes “Stage Five” to a whole new dimension for the Cycling Classic. Cyclists can now circumnavigate the island, point-to-point, coast to coast, in a race that will challenge the body but satisfy the mind. Now we can truly tagged this race ‘the Tour of Tobago’. |
